Why Exercise
by Lisa Hashbarger
Recently, Suzanne Oakes, our Rehab Manager spoke to our Newly Diagnosed Support Group about exercise, and why it is important for someone with MS to be physical active. She spoke enthusiastically about the need for everyone to exercise, especially those with MS.
A few easy to remember guidelines:
- Don't "max out" during your work out - your goal should be endurance
- Keep flexible!
- If lifting weights, your should use lighter weights, and do more repetitions
- Exercise frequently and consistently
- Even a little bit of exercise is better than no exercise
- Don't forget to listen to your body, and don't over exert yourself
Benefits of exercise:
- Gives you stamina and endurance
- Curves depression and improves your general outlook
- Improves circulation
- It is a very social activity
Are you bored with your current physical activity? Why not try something new like one of our yoga or hydro classes? For more information, call our offices at 206-633-2606.
