Social Security Disability WorkshopThe MS Association holds this workshop 3-4 times a year. This is a practical workshop on the legal and strategic aspects of applying for both Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI). Our first presenter is Seattle attorney Peter McKee of the firm Douglas, Drachler, and McKee. Mr. McKee has 28 years of experience in this field and specializes in Social Security appeals. Our second presenter is Rebecca Pursley. Ms. Pursley is a former schoolteacher and person with MS who successfully won the SSDI award on the first try and has been a speaker on this topic for 8 years. Her tips and strategies are extremely helpful in preparing you for the application process!! Learn:
If you are interested in attending this workshop and would like to receive notice when the date for this year's workshop has been set, please email us with your name and email address and we will inform you of the workshop details. You can also check the Upcoming Workshops page for the latest information on all upcoming seminars and workshops.
The Social Security Disability Insurance Helper If you are anything like the rest of us, the prospect of applying for Social Security Disability is about as appealing as fighting a dragon with a soup spoon. And the grim statistics support our fears: seven out of ten applications are denied. Fortunately, there are resources out there to help you through the task, resources that can guide you through the "governmentese", tell you how to gather the information you will need, and show you how to present it so that it will not be rejected out of hand. In addition to the websites listed below, the MS Association of King County holds 3 - 4 SSDI workshops each year, and also sells SSDI workbooks and information put together by lawyers who specialize in helping people get through the SSDI process successfully. You can call us (206-633-2606, M-F, 9-5 PCT) or email us at msakc@msakc.org for more information on the workshops and the materials. Some of our workshop presenters (Rich and Rebecca Pursley) have also gathered all their knowledge and experience of the SSDI process into an extremely well written, comprehensive and easy-to-understand booklet which they will shortly be putting up on their own SSDI website. The information in the booklet is specifically targeted at people with MS who are applying for disability. We will provide links to that site as soon as it is running.
